upcoming events

The O.N.E. coalition continues to grow. Our ice cream social in June was very successful and a good way for people from several groups to get to know one another. Other upcoming O.N.E activities include a swim night at Star City Shores, this Saturday, July 23, and a Fishing Day at Holmes lake.

too much water!

Well, this has never happened before... our annual rafting trip with the National Sports Center for the Disabled was cancelled this year, due to dangerously high waters on the river. After record snow and lots of melting, the water was deemed too treacherous for rafting. Most of our group still went to Winter Park, and either just enjoyed the area on their own, or did some other activities with the NSCD - horseback riding, fishing, hiking, to name a few. The NSCD generously credited our account so that we can use the funds we already paid for our ski trip in the winter.

We had a very productive meeting with our new partners, O.N.E Coalition, last week. There were many organizations represented at the meeting, including the Arc, UCP, DSAF, Early Childhood services, AFN, and others. There are some fun activities coming up that the coalition is sponsoring - look for information about an ice cream social in June, a family swim night at Star City Shores in July, and a Husker Hero event in the fall.
Dreams Unlimited is very happy to be part of this coalition. We all feel we can reach more individuals with disabilities through our combined efforts. If you have ideas or questions, please let me know, and watch the web site for more information as the group continues to grow.

Speech and Hearing month

May is Better Speech and Hearing Month. Check out the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association web site at www.nshla.org, for information about speech and language development, and speech therapy services in our area.

O.N.E.

Dreams Unlimited is pleased to be partnering with a new organization in Lincoln - Organizations Networking for Everyone (O.N.E.). This group hopes to combine the efforts of several non-profit organizations who work with people with disabilities, in order to provide more opportunities for all. More details to come.

Here's our wonderful dog, Maxine! Just practicing adding photos to my blog.

skiing and upcoming events

Just returned from another great Dreams Unlimited trip. MacKenzie, Morgan, Hannah, Landon, Stella and Gabriel braved the record cold temps in Winter Park (-30 one day!) and all skied with instructors and family, and had a great time. Some of our skiers were in sit-skis, some standing, all bundled up and not at all daunted by the weather. Families also found other fun activities to do while in Winter Park, like dog sled rides, ice skating, snow shoeing, tubing and more. As always, staff at the NSCD were awesome.

Coming soon - we are looking to summer for our next big activities - Salt Dogs Baseball, Bike Camp, and our annual River rafting trip with the NSCD. Stay tuned for details...
